Articles Archive - Opposition to War

Greetings of solidarity from United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ) to the
international anti-war movements campaigning against the Iraq war!

It has been now more than 2-1/2 years since the illegal and immoral U.S.
invasion of Iraq.  More than 1900 U.S. soldiers have died, and at least
another 15,000 have been wounded.  The Iraqi deaths number in the tens of
thousands. The people of Iraq, now under the military and corporate
occupation of the U.S., are still without food, water, electricity, and
other basic needs.

The Bush Administration is in a state of severe crisis.  Opinion polls
show the majority of ordinary Americans no longer support the Iraq war.
In fact, 52% of the U.S. public want the occupation of Iraq to immediately
end, and for the troops to be brought home now.  The state of disarray and
disrepair of social services domestically is being further aggravated by
the war's drain on our economy. This is especially evident in how the U.S.
government is failing to provide timely aid to the poorest people in New
Orleans and other victims of Hurricane Katrina. Members of Congress in
recent months have held hearings about Bush's lies in the events leading
up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, and have introduced legislation calling
for early withdrawal of U.S. troops.

The U.S. government has no legitimate alternative but to bring the troops
home immediately.

On September 24th, hundreds of thousands of people from around the U.S.
are gathering in Washington DC to call for an end to the war in Iraq.
UFPJ, the largest anti-war coalition in the United States, is mobilizing
this massive national demonstration and related action over the course of
three days, against the war in Iraq and any other present or possibly
future wars and threats to peace in other areas of the world.

We are heartened by the massive solidarity demonstrations around the
world.  We join with you all to heed the will of the citizens of the
planet to end their governments' collaboration with the United States by
immediately withdrawing all troops.

It is now a crucial time to pressure the governments worldwide that
directly and indirectly support the occupation forces in Iraq, to withdraw
that support and to bring all troops home.  Let us continue in our faith
in the people's power to make this happen!

End the U.S. Occupation in Iraq!
All Troops Out of Iraq Now!

In solidarity,
