A CALL TO RESIST BUSH'S WAR AND DEFEND WORLD PEACE

04 February 2003

U.S President Bush' State of the Union Address can be summed up into IRAQI-PHOBIA, the demonizing of Iraqis in the eyes of the people. After alleging Iraq of hiding Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs), he now accuses it of "helping and protecting terrorists" and that it could possibly attack the United States in "9/11 style". These unfounded accusations are tailored-fit to justify its planned offensive strike against Iraq. To revive his badly faring war propaganda, President Bush is using the 9/11 incident to create fear among the people in order to tilt public opinion to support his war.

Since the United Nations started its investigation of Iraq, not one piece of evidence has been found yet that indicates Iraq's production of WMDs. Despite this, the US government insists that Iraq has been refusing to cooperate. We believe, however, that no matter the results of the inspection, US will push for this war to weather its drastically deteriorating economy. Point of fact being US' deployment of troops in the Middle East geared to bomb Iraq as soon as US' order to strike.

US-allies France, Russia, Germany and China have already stood up to U.S.' bullying and refused to support US' plan to strike prior the submission of the results of the arms inspection. Hence, we are dismayed and greatly angered that despite this, the Arroyo government continues to give full support to this vicious war. We have enough of our own that our government could not even resolve. Worse, until now, the Arroyo government has not fully disclosed to the public the extent of the our country's "support" to this war. With the "midnight" passage of the Mutual Logistics Support Agreement, we fear that the country will be used as basing, launching and refueling camp. U.S. will definitely drag us into his war and the risk is too high for our leaders to just dismiss the bane this war will plague upon the Filipino people.

We call on the United Nations to exercise its authority and contain by all means US plan of aggression in Iraq. US' strike-first policy breaches the essence of the UN Charter: "to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war". President Bush' palpable arrogance should not be tolerated but met with just retribution. To allow this immoral war would catapult humanity to the era wherein savages wage unilateral war driven by greed to reign, such as US President Bush.

We also call on our fellow Filipinos and the citizens of the world to stand guard because the very fragile peace the world has left is threatened. We must fight this war to defend world peace.
