"RESOLUTION URGING HER EXCELLENCY GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES TO REFRAIN THE BALIKATAN EXERCISE IN THE ISLAMIC CITY OF MARAWI"

     WHEREAS, City of Marawi is the only Islamic City in the Philippines;

     WHEREAS, Balikatan Exercises of the U.S. Military Forces in Islamic City of Marawi as well as the Province of Lanao del Sur cause negative effect to the constituents of Lanao dl Sur and Marawi City;

     WHEREAS, pre-empting of effect of the U.S. Military Exercises in the territory of the Muslim will ignite their feelings, as well as the non-Muslims for the enhancement of gambling, entail of prostitutions, alcoholism which is totally prohibited in the entire Province of Lanao del Sur and the Islamic City of Marawi;

     WHEREAS, the Peace Loving People of the Islamic City of Marawi as well as the Province of Lanao del Sur absolutely oppose/object to the Balikatan Exercises of the U.S.Military Forces in the Islamic City of Marawi and Lanao del Sur;

     THEREFORE, upon motion of Hon. RAUF D. ROMUROS duly seconded by all SP Members present, it was Resolved as it is hereby resolved, urging Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, President of the Repubic of the Philipines, to refrain the Balkatan Exercises in the Islamic City of Marawi and Lanao del Sur;

     RESOLVED FURTHER, copies of this Resolution be forwarded to Her Excellency, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Sen. Manuel Villar, Senate President, Speaker Jose de Venecia, House of Representatives, for immediate action. 

     I hereby certify to the correctness of the foregoing Resolution, dated January 28, 2008.
