TOWARDS A CULTURE OF PEACE: OUR ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE
August 2004 marks the 4th Anniversary of Yonip.com as a
Philippine Peace and Sovereignty Website. It also marks our half a
millionth cyberspace visitor to access and read our website since it
was displayed on the net. As of last August 19, 2004, Yonip.com has
had its 504,455th visitor from more than one hundred countries of
the world. But we are more challenged than ever because the world
has become a more dangerous place since then with violent conflicts
and continued transgressions of people's rights and national
sovereignty. We shall give more substance and creativity to
Yonip.com so that it becomes a venue for truth to leak out, for
falsehoolds to be unveiled, so that the "Truth shall set us Free. "
Today, as we mark our 4th anniversary in cyberspace, we resolve
to become more relevant than ever, to counter and expose the lies
and distortions by those in power which are used to enrich
themselves and make our planet closer to extinction. We cannot allow
evil to move about unchallenged.
How we wished that the Olympic Games could be the civilized
venue where nations could settle their disputes. Power could be
given a deeper meaning if it recognized the moral significance and
value of both individual and collective national achievement that is
embedded in the victory and successes at the Games. Greece, where
the Olympic Games was born, had a culture that recognized individual
human greatness, a culture that emphasized the power and value of
human life and happiness on this earth.
Violence destroys not only human beings but also the symbols of
human achievement. Violence not only pulverizes man's highest
potential and achievements but also creates a cycle of hatred and
destruction that diverts the nation's and world's resources away
from basic human needs towards the machines of death.
It is towards a culture of peace that we keep on resonating in
cyberspace, that we shall keep on pursuing. We uphold the value of
human life on earth, and the value of reason as the means by which
human beings shall further their lives and the potential nobility of
the human spirit.
TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE KEEPING YONIP.COM ALIVE, MABUHAY KAYO!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, YONIP.COM!
